I work for a large brewery in Manchester and it has been rumoured throughout the company that the managerial staff are thinking of using Drug Testing Kits to see if the workforce have been taking any drugs whilst they are working. I, and many others feel that this is a real infringement on civil liberties, even though I know that at least ninety nine per cent of them would never even consider using drugs, they still feel that using Drug Testing Kits on them would be an invasion of their freedom. Some of the staff have reported this to the union representative and a meeting is being held tomorrow with the management and the union to see if they can be persuaded to shelve their plans. I really think that the management should change their mind about this plan because, not only is it not necessary in our company, but I feel that the management will seriously alienate the workforce if they put this into practice. I think the wise move for all concerned would be to forget about this idea.
